Today, on April 12, 2022, Felix Vengelis -Twilight King- 1 blows out its 10th candle, and the Myths of Lightis RPG Maker prototype will blow out its 7th candle on April 19. I like dates, especially when they are symbolic, which is the case of April 12 and 19, a retrospective of the path traveled by the Myths of Lightis would be interesting, which goes with my philosophy that nothing comes out of nowhere go. A small passage by Felix Vengelis -Twilight King- 1, the game that gave The Myths of Lightis, is interesting to illustrate my point.
Where did Felix Vengelis -Twilight King- 1 come from?
Felix Vengelis -Twilight King- 1 is a turn-based RPG, in its version that you can discover here with some precautions on its low quality, started on April 12, 2012 which comes back quite far.
The protagonist of the game, who by the way gave his name to the game, was previously an antagonist of another series of games that made me happy from November 2010 to April 2012. Felix Vengelis had quite a rich background that was often mentioned in his old games, and I thought it would be interesting at the time to make games for him retracing his past, the first of them was Twilight King, imagined and dreamed up around December 2011.
A prototype had been started in February 2012, but was not continued and I lost it. The game that we know today is therefore restarted on April 12, 2012 and was also to trace the origins of Felix Vengelis before he became an antagonist in the series from which he came...
But I unconsciously moved away from this idea and the series initiated by Felix Vengelis -Twilight King- 1 does not share, apart from a few rare remnants in the latter, anything with my first video game series. For the better I want to say.
The Ordon Forest, one of the most emblematic places in the world of Felix Vengelis
The common heritage of the February 2012 prototype and the version known today.
Felix Vengelis -Twilight King- 1 had a stable development, but was nearly lost 2 times, but was saved each time. The February 2012 prototype and the final version, despite their fundamental differences, laid a solid foundation for The Myths of Lightis:
- Some places are anchored in the universe, namely the village of Ordona and the Forest of Ordon.
- The strong inspirations of the sublime Zelda series, especially of Twilight Princess, were very marked at this time, before drying up in the more recent versions of Myths of Lightis.
- A cast had already been drawn up in February 2012, Felix Vengelis and Andjelia Brauer are still central characters in The Myths of Lightis.

The legacy of Felix Vengelis -Twilight King- at The Myths of Lightis.
The Myths of Lightis -Begins the Age of Darkness- was first thought of as a very faithful remake of Felix Vengelis -Twilight King- 1 and had not been planned to be unveiled. The beginning of the development of TMOL was in the midst of a period where GoldenWorld was my main RPG serie and tensions with a team to which I unfortunately belonged.
The goal of TMOL, previously known by the very equivocal name of Felix Vengelis -Twilight King- Remastered, was to teach my cousin everything I knew about game design... It was during the withdrawal of the GoldenWorld series that what was initially a remake of the first Twilight King has become something new, more personal, less close to Zelda, more authentic... In short, you get the idea.
So what remains of Felix Vengelis -Twilight King- 1 in The Myths of Lightis? Here is a small list, because I like lists:
- Which was mentioned earlier in "The common heritage of the February 2012 prototype and the version known today".
- The worlds of Lightis and Tenebra already existed in Twilight King 1, but had different names (Fujikondo and Twilight Palace respectively) and were in very preliminary stages to what exists in TMOL today.
- A scenario base, with a fight between 2 worlds that everything opposes and a demon god who pulls the strings behind.
- Many of the characters introduced in the April 2012 version are still present (the most notable being Magalor the Innkeeper of Ordona).
- For the prototype under RPG Maker, The Myths of Lightis is like its ancestor, a turn-based RPG (this will change in the game that will powered by Godot, I would prefer an A-RPG).
One could simply say that Felix Vengelis -Twilight King- 1 is a draft for a beautiful work in the making that is The Myths of Lightis.

What to remember.
As I often say in my blog posts about my old games, nothing comes out of nowhere and we must not lose hope. This is especially true for The Myths of Lightis.
Felix Vengelis -Twilight King- 1 was very badly received in its time, the sensitive and young teenager with a strong temperament had almost thrown in the towel, and yet I am still here. TMOL's preservation of a big pile of debecting shit that had a strong grip on the GoldenWorld serie and Mario Kart MegaMix also worked in favor of saving the Felix Vengelis universe.
There is a sentence that I really like that says "If an idea does not work, you have to change the method, not the idea"... This philosophy sums up well my vision of things and the story that binds Felix Vengelis -Twilight King- 1 to The Myths of Lightis.
