HopDrop v0.6.1 coming in 2021

Hello everyone, how are you?

Simple and nice little devlog this time around. We're not going to be complicated today, but we're going to tackle what I've been doing for the last 2 months (after a small data corruption, more fear than harm). Once all this put all together, it will be the big news to end this year 2020 which will have been very rotten for many people. We'll start with some screenshots.

Here is the new movement which replaces the Super Jump, the Balloon Flight! The Super Jump was getting old, it was the first move I had programmed (outside of normal jump and combat, of course), but with all the changes made over the last 5 years, the Super Jump hadn't has not kept pace and has gradually aged, to the point of being more difficult to use than originally.

So I programmed this new, more stable and more fun movement instead ... Nah, but it's true, it's really more beautiful to see, fun and easy to use.

Some +1 Cakes was very (too) easy to have. The one located in the 3rd world was the most obvious, especially since farming Muffins (life regain) and +1Cake (extra lives) is very easy in HopDrop, and it's a choice that I assume.

Farming Muffins must be easy, but +1 Cakes must be another story ... And the one you see there, even I have a hard time getting it ... But it's possible to get it, it you just have to earn it.

We broached the subject of redesigning a significant part of the 3rd world in this specially dedicated devlog. Visiting the interior of the Noirode Mansion is now a real pleasure, you will appreciate to visit it and unearth its little secrets, in order to save the Fairies who are kept there, certainly!

We had also talked about Questions for a Sphinx in an old devlog ... But this moment of the game had been lost in my loss of data. It was a bad moment for a good opportunity, since I started this mini-game over from 0, so I took the opportunity to rewrite some questions, and improve the visual rendering ... Especially during the answers, with the desk behind which Alex stands who comes to life according to the answer.

Noirode Manor has changed a lot, its boss is about to follow. I'm not saying anything yet, but its new form will be quite different from the current one. It won't be the only boss to evolve, the game's first boss will change as well. The 4 other bosses present will receive more minor modifications (it will be especially their introduction which will be improved).

Without transition (well yes in fact), a small graphic novelty which brings a not insignificant touch of charm to an already very charming game: transitions when entering and leaving areas of the game. This replaces the unattractive black fades and devoid of charm. There are several variations (including the star fade you see there), for bosses and a few specific situations.

I'm also reworking the design of part of the 5th world. This village, witness to the origins of the HopDrop universe, had long kept a simple decoration: wooden houses and some Christmas decorations. I kept some of the decorations (the garlands, in particular), but redecorated the houses by taking my inspiration from isbas, traditional Russian houses which are sometimes painted (you will find pretty ones on my Pinterest board "Ambiance hivernale").

All of this is wonderful. Which is even more wonderful, as you read in the title of this devlog, I am planning an improved version of HopDrop for the first half of 2021, which will include among other things some new content:

  • Everything that has been presented so far, since September 12, 2020. All available in English and French.
  • Enhanced gameplay stability.
  • Displacement of some Fairies.
  • Introduction of controller support, we will start with support for Xbox and PlayStation controllers.
  • Release of a standalone Linux version (initially for Debian and its daughter distributions, such as Ubuntu or Linux Mint), thus avoiding the installation and configuration of Wine for Linux gamers. I do not yet have details about a macOS version.
  • If I have time, a 3rd language will be added to the game, either German or Spanish.
